“Our garden family is open for growth, in both vegetables and friendships, and we’re always welcoming new loving hands to join our community!”
~ written by families about our inclusive community, Summer 2011~
Founded in May 2010 by a dedicated group of stakeholders from Creating Landscapes for Families, the Community Garden is a summer program that aims to help families learn to grow, prepare, and enjoy nutritious food together. Garden families and volunteers meet three times each week at the garden site to plant, weed, water, and harvest, sharing the work on one community plot of land, donated by our partnering farmer, Bob Ackerman.
As the work in the garden is divided equally, the harvest is also divided among participants on a weekly basis, beginning in late July. We offer regular educational experiences about herbs, yoga, cooking, outdoor wonders and more! Monthly potlucks allow families to share recipes made from the garden harvest. A Harvest Dinner is held each year to celebrate the successes of the season and thank our supporters from the community.
